  • Homemade Gummy Bears

My friend Carrie found that she was craving gelatin while her broken wrist was healing.  She made this great gummy recipe and loved it so much she wanted to share it with all of you!   Enjoy!!   Gummy Recipe Before beginning, determine how much liquid you need to fill a tray of gummy molds. I used these molds and each mold needed 1/3 cup liquid, which was perfect! Makes 150 gummy bears (using molds at link above) Ingredients 1 cup 100% fruit juice (white grape or apple take other flavors well) 3 Tbsp gelatin (everyone recommended Great Lakes Unflavored Beef Gelatin – orange can) 1 Tbsp honey or the equivalent of your…

  • Mindfulness

Guest post by Joshalyn McHargue I distinctly remember the first time I learned about mindfulness. It was during a counseling lecture, and my professor encouraged my classmates and me to make it a consistent part of our lives to avoid burnout. As a counselor in training, I was initially interested in how it could improve my counseling skills. Soon after I began practicing mindfulness, however, I found it to be a helpful tool in my life as a wife, friend, daughter, employee, and well, a human being! Put simply, mindfulness is the intentional act of being fully present in a moment. It involves becoming aware of your thoughts and knowing…

  • Is Your Makeup Toxic? You’ll Be Surprised!

My sweet husband always told me that I didn’t need to wear makeup.   That he liked me just fine without it.    Then, I’d dress up to go on a date and he’d love how I looked, with makeup.   LOL.  One day, I discovered an app called Think Dirty Shop Clean and scanned the makeup I was using.   I was SHOCKED and thanked him for encouraging me not to wear it! Since repeated low doses of chemical exposure over time is a primary cause of disease, the more we can reduce the amount of chemicals we put IN and ON our bodies, the better!   A high percentage of cancers are…

  • Review: Greek ‘n’ Stuff

It seems to be the year of ancient languages at the HomeSchool Review Crew!   I was excited to have the opportunity to review another Greek curriculum!  Greek ‘n’ Stuff sent us their full set of Hey Andrew, Teach Me Some Greek – Level 3 Set to review. Greek ‘n’ Stuff sent us the Student workbook, teacher’s manual, and the pronunciation cd for Levels 3 & 4.   This is level 3, and it’s recommended for students who have completed Levels 1 and 2, OR who are in upper elementary school. My Super D is an incoming 5th grader (HOW??), so we fit into the latter category!  The student workbook…

  • Review: Adventures of Rush Revere Book Series

Rush Limbaugh is a household name in the United States.  Whether you agree with his political leanings or not, his expanding series based on a fictional character named Rush Revere is worth checking out!   We were already familiar with his first book, so when we were offered the opportunity to review the rest of the series, we jumped at it!    We were sent the complete set Adventures of Rush Revere Book Series from the Adventures of Rush Revere #1 New York Times Bestselling Book Series by Rush and Kathryn Adams Limbaugh. This book series includes five different titles.    Rush Revere and The Brave Pilgrims Rush Revere and…

  • Review: Whistlefritz Spanish

Knowing a decent amount of Spanish has fared well for me in life. I wasn’t anywhere near fluent, but I knew enough to translate in certain arenas.  I could translate well enough to get paid for it, and I loved that I could preach the gospel in Spanish!   It was always helpful around the barn too, where many of the employees spoke very little English.   I was therefore excited for the opportunity to review Whistlefritz‘s Educator’s Spanish Collection with my kids and as part of the Homeschool Review Crew. Our world is quickly becoming a smaller place.  We are connected through the Internet and airplane travel like never more.…

  • Review: K5 Learning Online Program

Sweetheart is always excited for new computer programs, and I’m always on the hunt for ways to engage her more in reading and math.   We were offered the opportunity to review K5 Learning via the Homeschool Review Crew and given six months worth of access to this online program. K5 Learning is designed for students in kindergarten through 5th grade.  It is designed as a supplement and is not a full curriculum.    The three different subjects include Reading, Spelling, and Math.  You can have up to four students per account, so we used this one both with Sweetheart and Super D. The program begins with assessments.   Don’t…

  • Review: The Secret Bridge

Quality reading material is hard to come by for kids these days!  There is a lot of junk on the market, but very few books that both are engaging to read and communicate good values.   I am a believer in the classics, but, as you know if you’ve read any, those are tough to read sometimes!   That’s fine for high school, but I’m still in the earlier reading stages with my kiddos.    Lamplighter Publishing has reprinted an old classical called The Secret Bridge and kindly sent it to us to review. This novel was originally published in 1889, late in author Amy Le Feuvre’s life. The book itself is BEAUTIFUL.…

  • Review: ArtAchieve Level 2

As you might know if you’ve read my blog for very long, I am not an artsy kind of gal – biology, genetics, and chemistry is much more my cup of tea!   My kids love to do art, and I know I need outside help.  lol.    We reviewed ArtAchieve‘s Level 1 program last year, so when we were offered the opportunity to review their Entire Level 2, I went for it.  I had a great idea of the quality to expect, and we were not disappointed.  It’s generally recommended for ages 7 and up.  My Sweetheart is 7 (drawing on the right in the top graphic) and Super D…
